The “super flu” has finally met its match with this “super immunity” orange juice. If winter’s got you down and you’re at the mercy of the ruthless germs being passed around, do yourself a favour and make yourself this healing juice. Or, drink it as a preventative to keep your immune system strong (and skin gorgeous).

Smoothie vs. Juice

What’s the difference between a smoothie and a juice? A smoothie involves using a blender to break down all of the ingredients into tiny pieces that make it easy to drink. A smoothie still contains all the fibre, making it slower for your body to digest and absorb.

A juice involves using a juicer to separate the pulp from the liquid (juice) found in fruits and vegetables. This means the juice itself contains no fibre, so when you drink it on an empty stomach, it passes through your digestive system very easily and its nutrients are absorbed and utilized by the body more quickly. This is definitely an advantage if you’re feeling like you need a nutrient boost – fast.

Juices and smoothies are both fantastic and it’s good to switch it up between the two when you can.

Not Your Typical OJ

This juice is packed with a variety of immune-boosting ingredients and a delightful sweet, tangy flavour with a gingery kick.

Carrots: Beta carotene, lycopene, lutein, zeaxanthin (high antioxidant conent)

These are crucial for improving immunity in the body, defending the body from free radical damage, harmful bacteria, viruses and inflammation.

Oranges: Vitamin C

Stimulates white blood cell production, and helps immune system function properly.

Lemons: Vitamin C

Stimulates white blood cell production, and helps immune system function properly. Helps kickstart the liver and detoxification by getting it to produce bile.

Turmeric: Curcumin

Contains anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. Helps protect the body from free radical damage and strengthen the immune system.

Ginger: Gingerol

Anti-inflammatory properties, anti-fungal properties, antimicrobial potential against pathogens and anti-tumor effects on the cells.

Added Bonus

Each one of these ingredients also happens to be a powerhouse for your skin health as well. The antioxidant content helps fight damage from free radicals caused by sun and pollution, reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin texture. The vitamin C helps assist in collagen production in the skin.

 

Super Immunity Orange Juice

raw, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free

Makes: about 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • 3 large carrots, trimmed
  • 4 oranges, peeled
  • 2 lemons, peeled
  • 2 inches fresh turmeric root
  • 2 inches fresh ginger root

Wash all ingredients and cut into pieces that will fit in juicer.

Pass all ingredients through juicer. For pulp-free juice, strain using a fine mesh strainer.

Drink immediately or store in airtight containers in the fridge. Keeps for 1-2 days.

    This juice looks delicious! I can’t wait to try this recipe. Do you have any juicer recommendations? My last one broke and I’ve been looking at the Hurom slow juicers but they’re more on the expensive side

      Thanks for checking the recipe out. It’s soooo delicious and healing, I hope you love it! My favourite masticating juicer brand is Omega. I use the the 8006 model. I’ve had it for almost 9 years now and it works perfectly and I love it! I hope that helps 🙂
